Born and raised in Southend-on-Sea I never expected that I would discover that there was so much Anglo-Saxon and Viking history on my doorstep! This site is my way of detailing Anglo-Saxon, Viking (and some Roman) sites and history in Essex and surrounding areas and sharing it with the world.

I have always been interested in History, rushing home from school to watch “Horrible Histories” on the TV when I was younger and always asking why things are as they are and what happened (to be honest this has driven my parents a little crazy at times). I was amazed to discover that I live in such a history rich area of the country and have set about visiting all of it, a bit at a time.
